FAQs

Do I need a TV licence to watch programmes on BoB?
No, BoB gives you access to programmes after the broadcast has finished, therefore you don't need a licence. For more information go to University of South Wales TV Licensing.

Can students make recordings?
Yes all registered staff and students of USW can record programmes using BoB.

How many recordings can I make?
You can make up to 20 requests per day, restricted to 5 requests every 6 hours.  In addition, you can make an unlimited numbers of clips a day.

Is there a limit to the number of programmes I can watch?
No there is no limit and there is no limit to the number of times you can watch a single programme.

Can I see subtitles on BoB?
Subtitles are available on all programmes - you can select to have subtitles turned on or off depending on your preferences.

I missed a programme I wanted to record, what can I do?
It may have been recorded by another user. BoB also provides a 30-day buffer on all channels. Click the 'Search' button on the purple navigation panel, or browse through the programme guide for the title you are looking for.

Can I record Open University programmes?
Until recently, programmes produced solely by the Open University were not included in the ERA Plus Licence and were not available via BoB. Licensing arrangements have now changed, however, and future Open University programmes will be available via BoB.

Can I download a recording and make a DVD?
No, BoB is a streaming service.

Can I watch iplayer content on BoB?
Exclusive iplayer programmes are not available to watch or download on BoB.

Can non-UK based students view BoB?
No, recordings made under the ERA licences can only be viewed by registered University staff or students in the UK.

Are there terms and conditions for using BoB?

Can I upload video content to BoB?
This isn’t a feature BoB offers.

Can I access BoB off campus?
Yes. BoB operates under the terms and conditions of the ERA licence, so you can use it anywhere in the UK.
