Notes on how to reference generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI)

  • You must confirm with your tutor before using generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in your assignments. Some module assessments do not permit the use of Gen AI tools, while others may allow Gen AI with some limitations.

  • If the Gen AI’s end product (for example use of ChatGPT in conversation) is only available to you, cite this as a software program’s (or algorithm’s) output. Consult your tutor in case they require you to provide a copy of the Gen AI work as an appendix to your work.

  • The name of the Gen AI model is the title and should be written in italics.

  • The description of program should describe the type of Gen AI model used. In the case of ChatGPT this is a Large Language Model.
