Introduction & access

EndNote desktop software is aimed at Academic staff and PhD researchers at USW.

Access

EndNote is supported as the University’s standard bibliographic software package. Academic staff and PhD researchers can access Endnote 20 via UniApps.

EndNote for researchers

A reference management tool is important in the research and writing process, particularly if you have a large project, like a PhD thesis or if you are managing multiple projects or papers or working with collaborators in a group project (staff). EndNote (desktop) allows you to:

  • Collect references, from other databases into your own personal database of references.
  • Store and organise your bibliographic references.
  • Create and insert references into a research paper as you write and can automatically generate a bibliography at the end of your paper.
  • Produce bibliographies in a number of different styles at a click of a button.

EndNote: versions compared

  • EndNote 20 (desktop) users can create a library with an unlimited number of stored references and an unlimited number of file of attachments with 7,000+ predefined reference styles available. This is only available to Academic staff and PhD researchers at USW.
  • EndNote online for desktop users (premium) can create a library with an unlimited number of stored references and an unlimited number of file of attachments with 4,200+ predefined reference styles available. Once you have a desktop installation of EndNote, this can be linked to an EndNote online account.
  • EndNote online (basic - free version) - is a more limited reference management tool than EndNote desktop software and is only available online. EndNote Online users can create an library with up to 50,000 references and up to 2GB of attachments with 21 reference styles available.  For more information on the free version see the EndNote online (basic - free version) page.

For more information on the EndNote desktop, EndNote online (Premium) and EndNote online (basic) features, see the product comparison chart.

Syncing EndNote 20 (desktop) with EndNote online

Using EndNote 20 (desktop) in conjunction with EndNote online allows you to sync your desktop library with your online library. This allows you to:

  • Have access to your EndNote library even when you are not working with your own device or if you have multiple devices, but only one with the software installed.
  • Backup your library to the cloud with EndNote online.

USW Harvard EndNote style

Academic staff and PhD researchers may email their faculty librarian to request the USW Harvard EndNote style, which can be emailed to you by return. Your research supervisor will be able to offer guidance on referencing style requirements.
