Reading List Support : Requesting resources

Mae'r dudalen hon hefyd ar gael yn Gymraeg

How to request a digitised chapter

You can request digitised (scanned) chapters and articles for your reading list.  USW holds a licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency that permits certain resources to be digitised. Academic staff cannot digitise resources from print materials themselves, but Library colleagues can do it for them.

What can be digitised?

  • Book chapters & journal articles from USW stock.
  • Book chapters & journal articles that are NOT in stock (if available in the British Library).

How much?

  • Usually one chapter (or 10%) from a book, per module.
  • Usually one journal article (or 10%) from an issue, per module.

Restrictions

  • It can take time to provide digitised materials so always give plenty of notice.
  • Some publishers are not part of the service and will not permit digitisation.

You can contact the Library to discuss your requirements.

Requesting new books for your list

Whenever you hit the Publish button after creating or editing a list, the Library is notified.  The reading list will then be “reviewed”, checking that all the resources are available:

  • Check that all books are in stock
  • Purchase copies if needed
  • Purchase newer editions if available
  • Ensure journal and article links are working
  • Ensure online resources are working
  • Check for any authentication issues

If you require any books for your modules, add them to your reading list and leave the rest to us!  If there are problems with any of your resources we will get in touch.  There are sometimes restrictions based on price or availability but we will inform you if that's the case.
