Where to find Theses

Finding University of South Wales Theses

Digitized theses

All our theses are available in full-text format and are being uploaded to the USW Research repository - PURE. During this period, if a title you want is not yet available online, contact the library for assistance.

Print theses

All print theses are now stored in our off-campus document storage facility at Crown Records Management in Cardiff. Should the digitised version not be appropriate for you use, or it is embargoed, then the print copy may be made available.

Finding UK theses

If you are looking for a thesis produced by another UK institution, FINDit has several routes to UK Theses. Go to Find Database and then Title:

1. EThOS (external link)
Some of the most popular British theses are now freely available electronically through the British Library’s EThOS service. EThOS holds thousands of theses which have been scanned, others can be scanned (on request) free of charge and others theses are only available for a fee. You will have to register with EThOS to access or request theses.

2. Theses collection Wales (external link)

Here you can find records for about 50,000 theses and dissertations which have been presented for postgraduate degrees in higher educational institutions (HEIs) in Wales. The collection comprises theses and dissertations arising from all PhD and research Masters degrees, as well as taught Masters Dissertations which have a Welsh interest or have gained a distinction.

Finding international theses

Many European theses are available online through DART – the Europe e-theses portal (external link). DART-Europe is a partnership of research libraries and library consortia who are working together to improve global access to European research theses. Dart is continuously updated, contains about 300,000 records from 423 universities in 23 European countries.

OATD (external link) aims to be the best possible resource for finding open access graduate theses and dissertations published around the world. Metadata (information about the theses) comes from over 1100 colleges, universities, and research institutions. OATD currently indexes 3,453,652 theses and dissertations.
