Using USW Library Q & A

If you are on a USW franchised course at one of our partner colleges you are welcome to use both our physical and online libraries.
Your home college library will provide all the print resources you need for your course. You also have access to the University library's wide range of ebooks and online resources.

Here are the answers to some key questions. If you have further questions please use the Library chat service or contact us

  1. Can I join the library?
Yes! As a student at one of our partner colleges you are automatically a member of USW library and are welcome to use any campus library. You will get your Student ID card (which is also your library card) after you have enrolled.

  2. What can I borrow from USW libraries?
You can borrow up to 25 items at one time. Books can be borrowed from any USW campus library and you can also return your books to any USW campus library.

  3. Do I have unlimited access to USW online materials?
Yes, all ebooks, databases and online journals are accessible on or off campus. The only database not available outside the UK is Box of Broadcasts. You will need to set up your USW IT account to access online materials. See below for details on setting up your IT account.

  4. Can I use USW library facilities?
Yes, we have a range of study spaces over four campuses. We offer collaborative, silent, and quiet spaces, plus bookable pods, and rooms. Please bring your Student ID card to access campus facilities.

  5. Where can I get help and support?
The first place to go is your home college library. This guide provides an overview of the resources available from USW Library and includes films and guidance on how to use them. Everyone is welcome to join our Future Ready Students webinars which are aimed at helping you improve your grades by making good use of library resources.  You can also use our Library chat service or contact USW Library and USW Study Skills directly for further advice and support.
