Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory – Youth (Eqi-Yv, Eqi-Yv(S))

This self-report instrument is designed to measure emotional intelligence in young people aged 7-18 years.  The long version comprises 60 items distributed across 7 scales (total emotional intelligence, interpersonal, intrapersonal, adaptability, stress management, general mood, positive impression) while the short version has 30 items across 6 scales (as before but excluding general mood). The full version contains an inconsistency scale to identify random responding. The long version takes 25-30 minutes to complete while the short version takes 10-15 minutes.

The Big Five Inventory (BFI) is a self-report inventory designed to measure the Big Five dimensions. It is quite brief for a multidimensional personality inventory (44 items total), and consists of short phrases with relatively accessible vocabulary.

Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS)

A measure of mood states among adolescent and adult populations which contains 24 mood descriptors (e.g. angry, energetic, nervous, and unhappy).  Respondents indicate whether they have experienced such feelings on a 5-point scale (0 = not at all, 1 = a little, 2 = moderately, 3 = quite a bit, 4 = extremely).
